Christmas. In July…?

Look away now if it’s just too early for you to be thinking about Christmas. 😁

UPDATE: This pattern is now available to buy as an advert free pdf download. The pattern includes all six parts of the original CAL in one document. It is available in UK and US terms. You can find it in my shop here.

Christmas Eve Wishes

Lots of you told me that you would like the pattern for Christmas Eve Wishes as early as possible to give you time to make multiple blankets for friends and family (someone is making 9!). I will be releasing the full pattern here on Monday 11th July so you can make a start, but I am planning a CAL for October/November. The pattern contains tutorials to help you with all the techniques, but for the CAL there will be videos too if you need some extra help.

If you would like to get ready for the 11th, here is what you will need.

Yarn:

I used Hayfield Bonus DK for my blanket and the finished size is 100cm x 120cm. You can use any brand or weight of yarn you like. Aran and Chunky will be fine but bear in mind that the quantities and hook sizes below apply to DK only.

Green 150g

Red 150g

Cream 280g

Beige 50g

You will also need a few meters of dark brown to embroider the faces on the gingerbread people.

Here are the colours I used and a couple of alternative yarn suggestions. You can click to enlarge the pictures.

Hooks:

4mm and 4.5mm hooks

I used a 4mm hook but changed to a 4.5mm hook for rows with colour changes, such as the snowflakes. Dc (US sc) stitches tend to be a little tighter than tr (US dc) stitches. Changing to a larger hook will keep your tension even and your edges completely straight.

Everything else:

Scissors

Yarn needle

1 metre ribbon for bows on the gingerbread people (You could crochet these instead if you prefer)

Pom pom maker or cardboard to make pom poms.

That’s it! This is a really fun project to make and works up quickly (good news if you are making lots of them!) There are no complicated stitches, so even if you are very new to crochet you should enjoy making this. If you are signed up for my newsletter I will be sending out a little reminder when the pattern is available to download. If not, you can sign up at the bottom of the home page. I promise I won’t bombard you with emails every 5 minutes.

If you have any questions, please drop me an email. I always respond within a few hours.
